“People have always said that”

It is the standard reply, and it is meant to end the conversation. Every generation has had preachers of the last days, all of them were wrong, so this generation is wrong too. The argument has one weakness: the Bible predicted that people would make it.

Peter names the objection and places it in the last days (2 Peter 3:3-4). The mocking does not show that the Lord’s coming is far away. It is one of the signs that it is near. That alone proves nothing, and it is not offered as proof. It only clears the objection away, so the real evidence can be looked at.

Faith is not a guess

Then comes the sharper question: how could anyone possibly know? The honest answer is: by faith. For many people that ends the discussion, because they hear faith as a polite word for guessing. The Bible does not use the word that way.

Hebrews 11:1 · KJV

Substance and evidence. Faith rests on the word of a God who has never yet been wrong, and that is different from wishful thinking. Paul puts our waiting in the same light. The whole creation groans, and we groan with it, “waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body” (Romans 8:23). Hope that can already be seen is not hope at all (Romans 8:24).

⁴But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. ⁵Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

The day comes on the world like a thief. It does not have to come on believers that way, and the reason Paul gives is light. Anyone who has God’s word open does not have to be taken by surprise.

No date, and nobody setting one

First, the limit. Nobody here is naming a day, and nobody should. Jesus closed that door Himself.

³⁶But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

When the disciples asked Him about the timing, He told them, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons” (Acts 1:7). Everyone who has put a date on a calendar since has been wrong, and has handed the mockers of 2 Peter 3:3 one more easy laugh.

What Scripture does command is watching. We are told to be ready, “for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:44), to keep “looking for that blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), and to keep meeting and encouraging one another, “and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25). Reading the season is exactly what we were told to do. Setting the date is exactly what we were told we cannot do.

An arms race with one winner

Start with what almost nobody disputes. Artificial intelligence is improving exponentially, not linearly, and the people building it say so openly. The computing power used to train the leading models has been growing several times over every year, and each generation is used to help build the next. They expect the next year to bring more change than the last ten did. This claim does not come from Bible teachers. It comes from the companies building the technology.

The same people say something stranger in public. They say this may end very badly, even in the end of the world, and that they cannot tell which way it will go. They keep going anyway, and they state their reason openly too: if they stop, someone else will not.

That makes it an arms race, and unlike the ones before it. In the nuclear standoff each side could destroy the other, and that is what kept the peace. This race, as its own runners see it, has a single winner who shares nothing. Whoever gets there first can never be caught, and nobody still behind can beat him.

Follow that to its end. A race for the power to overrule everyone else does not end in a committee. Power over the whole world is being gathered into fewer hands, by people who describe it in exactly those terms and are fighting over who will hold it.

How one man could rule the world

For most of church history this was the strongest objection to reading Revelation 13 literally. One man rules the whole earth, tracks every purchase of every person alive, and forces the world to worship an image that speaks. The difficulty was practical. No empire in history could have run such a system, and Rome could not even watch one province in real time.

That objection no longer holds. The text has not changed, but the machinery it describes now exists.

⁴And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

That is a boast of military supremacy, and it is exactly what the race for artificial intelligence is expected to produce: a power nobody can answer. The question in the verse needs no reply, because by then everyone knows the answer.

¹⁵And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. ¹⁶And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: ¹⁷And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Put the text beside what exists today.

None of this says who the man is, or which company builds which piece. The point is narrower. A prophecy that once required impossible machinery now requires only ordinary machinery, and that machinery is being built right now, at enormous cost, by people who have probably never read Revelation 13.

Getting the technology inside the body

A phone in your pocket is not the goal, and it was never presented as one. The stated direction is wearable first and implanted later, and the men saying so are the men paying for it. Merging with the machine is openly discussed as a plan, and sometimes as a matter of survival: keep up with what you built, or be left behind by it.

Now set that beside a mark on the right hand or the forehead that controls every purchase. The distance between the two is far shorter than it was in 1970, and each piece on its own is ordinary.

• ✓Money that is entirely digital, which several central banks are openly designing.
• ✓A digital identity tied to the person rather than to a document.
• ✓Biometric authentication that works at the scale of an entire population.
• ✓Hardware implanted in the body with a two-way link to the nervous system.
• ✓Computing power so costly that only a government or a giant company can own it.

Any one of these is a convenience. Put together, they are the system Revelation 13:16-17 describes: a switch that can shut any person out of buying and selling, and somebody will end up holding it.

It is not utopia that is coming

The technology world offers two possible endings, plenty for everyone or catastrophe, and the people running it admit they do not know which one they are building. Scripture is not undecided. What is coming is the tribulation, the day of the Lord, which Jeremiah calls “the time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7).

²¹For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. ²²And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

It will be stranger than any disaster film. Read the fifth trumpet slowly. What comes up out of the pit is called locusts, yet they are told not to hurt the grass, which is what locusts eat, and they have a king, which locusts never have.

⁷And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. ⁸And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.

¹¹And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

Normal is not coming back. This is where a Christian is meant to be steady rather than afraid, because the same Bible that describes these days also says where the church is while they happen.

Aliens, and who is behind the disclosure

Ten years ago this subject belonged to late-night radio. Now there are hearings in Congress, senior intelligence and military officers testifying under oath about programs that recover crashed craft, footage posted on government websites, and news networks that mocked the subject for forty years covering it with a straight face.

Whether the objects are real matters less than why the mocking stopped. Institutions that spent decades laughing at this do not all change their tone in the same few years by accident. The narrative is being released, the timing is chosen, and someone is doing the choosing.

The Bible already said we are not alone

Christians should be the least surprised people in the room, yet they are often the most surprised. Scripture has said from the beginning that the world has other inhabitants, that they are organized, and that they are hostile.

¹¹Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹²For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:11-12 · KJV

Principalities, powers, rulers of darkness: that is a chain of command, and Paul means it literally. The first of these beings to appear in the Bible is a creature that talks, reasons, and opens with a question about what God really said.

¹Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

His method has not changed since. He did not use force. He used a sentence, and the sentence cast doubt on God’s word.

One faith is asked to make room

Watch what the coming narrative is shaped to do. Advanced beings have been here a long time, they seeded us and shaped us, they know more than we do, and every religion will have to grow up and make room. Then notice which religion is actually asked to make room: it is Christianity. No other faith is expected to question itself and adapt.

The specific claim is already circulating among those who study this subject full time: Jesus was one of them. A hybrid, a visitor, advanced, kind, impressive, and created. Everything except God.

This is the oldest attack there is, in new clothes, and the first three verses of John’s Gospel answer it.

¹In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ²The same was in the beginning with God. ³All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:1-3 · KJV

Everything that was made, He made. That leaves no room for Him to be one of the things that were made. Paul says the same about the unseen ranks in particular: “whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:16). Whatever is out there is on the created side of the line, and He is not.

A lie prepared in advance

Here the two subjects meet. If every believer on earth vanishes in an instant, the enemy of God cannot let the only explanation be the one the Bible gave two thousand years ago. He needs a different story, and he needs people to know it before the event.

Think of how a small child learns about Christmas Eve. He puts out milk and cookies and is told that in the night a man will come and eat them. In the morning they are gone. He went to bed with the explanation, woke up to the evidence, and the evidence confirmed the lie. He did not reason badly. He was simply given the explanation first.

Now ask what picture everyone on earth already carries for people who vanish without a trace. A beam of light, and a person lifted up into a craft. It has been in films and cartoons for decades, waiting for an event to explain.

¹⁶For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: ¹⁷Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Scripture says a false explanation is coming, and that it will work. That is the hardest part of the passage to read.

⁹Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 · KJV

One more thing about the timing. It may mean nothing, but it is hard to ignore. The modern UFO narrative began in the summer of 1947. The United Nations voted for a Jewish state in November 1947, and Israel was born in May 1948. Two clocks started within a year of each other, and the second one is the subject of the next part.

Why everything comes back to Israel

A country about the size of New Jersey, with a fraction of one percent of the world’s population, is in the news of every nation, and the United Nations condemns it more often than any other country. No ordinary explanation covers that. Zechariah gave the explanation some 2,500 years ago.

²Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. ³And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Zechariah 12:2-3 · KJV

A burdensome stone is one everyone insists on lifting and nobody can put down. That describes the last seventy-five years of diplomacy well. And Scripture names both the nations that will invade that land (Ezekiel 38) and the place where the armies of the world finally gather against it, “a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon” (Revelation 16:16).

A treaty starts the clock

The seven years of tribulation do not begin with a war. They begin with a signature.

²⁷And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Daniel 9:27 · KJV

One week here means seven years, the tribulation. In the middle of that period, the man who guaranteed the peace stops the sacrifices and takes the temple for himself. Jesus points to that same moment (Matthew 24:15), and Paul describes the man who “as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4). That requires a temple, and it requires the sacrifices to have started again. Preparations for both are further along than most Christians realize.

Isaiah shows what the deal will look like from Jerusalem’s side, and it is not flattering: a covenant made in fear, described by God in words its signers would never use.

¹⁵Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves.

Peace and safety

Paul gives the slogan that will be heard when the day of the Lord arrives, and it is a hopeful one.

²For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. ³For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

The King James reads “Peace and safety,” and several modern translations read “peace and security.” That wording is worth noticing, because it is the phrase the United Nations uses about the Middle East again and again, in documents and speeches. In practice it has come to mean one particular settlement: a Palestinian state, which requires Jerusalem to be divided, which requires Israel to sign something.

The normalization agreements between Israel and its neighbors have moved in this direction for years, and the countries still holding out have set the same condition for joining: a Palestinian state. Nobody involved is thinking about Daniel, and that is what makes it striking. The pieces are moving by themselves.

“You have been saying soon for years”

That is true. When a baby is due on the twelfth of the month, the parents say “soon” on the eighth. The twelfth comes and goes. On the fifteenth, does anyone decide the baby is not coming?

A due date that passes does not weaken the expectation. It sharpens it. Every year that passes while the signs grow stronger brings the day closer and does not disprove it. To be fair, that reasoning can never be proven wrong, and that is why nothing here rests on it. The case rests on what can be shown to be different now.

Six days of work, one day of rest

What follows is an inference, and it is labeled as one. God declares “the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:10), and the beginning He gave us is a week: six days of work and one day of rest (Genesis 2:2). Peter, in the same chapter that names the mockers, gives the key.

⁸But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Read as a pattern, that is six thousand years of human labor followed by a thousand years of rest. Revelation supplies the thousand years: Christ returns at the end of the seven-year tribulation and reigns on the earth for a thousand years, a millennium (Revelation 19:11-16, Revelation 20:4-6). Hebrews names that rest: “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God” (Hebrews 4:9). If the pattern holds, the tribulation is the last seven years of the six thousand, not something after them.

Now the arithmetic, with its weak point shown. One common reckoning puts the cross about four thousand years after creation. If that is right, the six thousand years end two thousand years after the cross, around 2033, which is seven years from now. Nobody can be certain, because the dates in the earliest genealogies are not precise enough to carry that much weight. An error of a few years would be no surprise. An error of a few centuries would be.

Could it have happened before?

No single item here proves anything, and several have innocent explanations. The case is that all of them are true at once, in one generation, for the first time, and that the Bible listed them together long before any of them was possible. Pick a year and see how many were in place.

People who expected the end in 1900 or 1970 were wrong, but in their day most of these conditions did not yet exist. Today all of them do. Only one thing explains the whole list, and it is not a theory about technology or politics. It is the Bible, and it was written first.
